One person died while another was injured when four vehicles were involved in an accident at Tinaighat along the Belagavi-Goa NH 748 at around 9.20 am on Wednesday.
According to the police, a truck was heading from Hospet towards Goa when a luxury bus attempted to overtake it.
During the manoeuvre, the bus collided with an empty mini tempo coming from Goa towards Chikkaballapur.
The tempo driver, identified as Rajshekhar Gangoolappa (26) of Chintamani, Chikkaballapur district, was trapped inside the vehicle and died on the spot.
Meanwhile, a motorcycle following the tempo also crashed into it. The rider, Kallappa Maruti Patil of Shiroli, Khanapur, sustained injuries.
The bus also hit the manganese-laden truck, causing the truck to overturn on the roadside.
Upon receiving information, Joyda Police Inspector Chandrashekhar Hariyar, Ramnagar Police Sub-Inspector Mahantesh Naik, and other personnel rushed to the spot.
The tempo driver’s body was retrieved with the help of a crane and sent to Ramnagar Government Hospital for an autopsy.
Some bus passengers, including the driver, received minor injuries and were immediately sent to Goa in another bus.
A case has been registered at the Ramnagar Police Station.
