Close on the heels of the BJP taking control of the Paroda village in Cuncolim constituency, the Lotus bloomed on Wednesday in Balli Village, falling under Quepem constituency and partly in Cuncolim constituency.
As the Presiding Officer declared Harshad Vithal Parit elected the new Sarpanch of Balli Village Panchayat, BJP leaders, including former Dy CM Chandrakant Kavlekar and former Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias, besides Cuncolim Municipal Councillor Videsh Desai, rushed to Balli to congratulate the new panel led by Harshad Vithal Parit.
Both Kavlekar and Clafacio pointed out that the Paroda and Balli Panchayats were previously ruled and controlled by the Congress party and their MLAs, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and Altone D’Costa, respectively. “The fact that the BJP has returned to power at Paroda and Balli Village Panchayats shows that the people have reposed their trust in the party and the party-led government ruling the state to usher development in the village,” Kavlekar stated.
Incidentally, Clafacio pointed out that part of the Balli Village Panchayat forms part of Cuncolim constituency, represented by Yuri. “People are now fed up with the Congress and the two MLAs representing Cuncolim and Quepem. Hence, the elected representatives of the two villages have reposed their faith and trust in the BJP,” Clafacio said.
The change in guard at the Paroda and Balli Village Panchayats assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the upcoming Zilla Panchayat elections scheduled in the state around November“December this year.
