Asks what the minister has done to bring ease to tribal people in the State

If Tawadkar claims he provided roads, water, electricity and dwelling units, why did Arlekar have to promise these very things to locals of Barddem, Yedda and Nadkem (Cotigao) and Marlim-Tirval in Poinguinim village.” Daya Pagi, Ex-ZP member

CANACONA

While Forest and Panchayat Minister Rajendra Arlekar received kudos for admitting the plight of Canacona tribals during his visit to Cotigao, his statements are being seen as a failure of Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar to develop the community.

“Arlekar’s acceptance regarding the plight of the tribal community is itself a slap on the face of his ministerial colleague and Canacona MLA Tawadkar,” said former ZP member and a Congress supporter Daya Pagi.

He was reacting to The Goan report on tribal forest dwellers of Cotigao submitting a three- point demand and the forest minister agreeing to come to their assistance.

“Tawadkar is playing with sentiments of tribal people, by saying that he has met all the aspirations of the tribal people and often boasts as if he is their only saviour.”

“How did Arlekar accept and understand the sorry plight of the tribals in the hinterlands of Cotigao? If Tawadkar claims he provided roads, water, electricity and dwelling units, why did Arlekar have to promise these very things to locals of Barddem, Yedda and Nadkem (Cotigao) and Marlim-Tirval in Poinguinim village,” asked Pagi.

“Tawadkar needs to answer to these queries, especially since he boasts of so much budget provisions to his tribal ministry. What has he done to ease the life of tribal people in the State, particularly in Canacona taluka,” Pagi further questioned.

“Tawadkar should stop making speeches, but should start working in reality as time is running out for him with elections just about a year now,” he added.
