MARGAO
Ahead of the July 8 Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) hearing at the sprawling SGPDA parking lot, the Goa police is on the job of mobilizing a huge police force for deployment in and around the SGPDA market complex during the hearing.

Around 600-800 police personnel, including three India Reserve Battalions, two male and female battalions, will be deployed during the hearing.

Given that the hearing is expected to take place non-stop, the police will be working in shifts, around 200 personnel in each shift, beginning from 8 am on July 8.

Two platoons of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) are believed to have been requisitioned for law and order duties.

Goa police sources informed that the top brass heading the district police has finalized a scheme for bandobast during the hearing. If sources are to be believed, the police force from South Goa will be mobilized in strength to maintain law and order during the hearing period.

While the police force from Margao Police sub-division, comprising of the police stations of Margao, Fatorda, Maina-Curtorim, Colva and Cuncolim will be deployed in strength, the Goa police will also requisition police personnel from the remaining sub-divisions in South Goa.

The traffic police is working on a scheme of deployment of traffic personnel in and around the venue of the hearing. A scheme for traffic parking and regulation is also being worked out to ensure smooth flow of traffic around the venue.

Margao Sub-divisional Police Officer, DySP Harish Madkaikar said that the police is working out the mobilization of logistics in and around the SGPDA market, the venue of the July 8 hearing. “The role of the police is to maintain law and order and provide security. We are on the job to put a scheme in place during the hearing”, he said.

Meanwhile, work was in full swing at the SGDPA parking lot and the adjoining market for the main pandal on the parking lot and another pandal in between the mutton and chicken stalls and the vegetable and fruit market.

While the main pandal will be the actual spot for the CZMP hearing, the adjoining pandal was suggested by district Collector Ruchika Katyal for accommodating people doing spot registrations. The adjoining pandal will have a giant screen facility to facilitate people keep track of the hearing taking place at the main venue.
