After local residents, elected representatives have now begun raising their voices over the poor state of roads in Bardez’s coastal belt.
Following Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira’s outburst against bad roads last week, Arpora Sarpanch Roshan Redkar has voiced strong concerns over the bad condition of the road from Nagoa Circle to the Arpora Primary Health Centre (PHC), which has remained damaged since May after underground electricity cabling work.
Frustrated over the damaged Nagoa“Arpora road, Redkar has warned of a rasta roko if repairs are not completed within eight days.
On Monday, Redkar expressed frustration over the delay in repairs.
“The road has been in a deplorable condition for months. Locals, tourists and schoolchildren are facing serious difficulties. We have repeatedly contacted the electricity department, PWD and the contractor, but no meaningful action has been taken,” he said.
Redkar warned that if the PWD does not complete the repairs within the next eight days, the villagers of Nagoa and Arpora, along with panchayat members, will visit the PWD office to demand immediate action.
He added that they may even resort to a rasta roko to press their demands.
Local residents have complained of potholes, waterlogging and damaged stretches, making commuting hazardous.
Tourists frequenting the area have also faced inconvenience, with public transport vehicles often struggling to navigate the uneven roads.
“The delay in repairing roads not only disrupts daily life but also affects tourism, which is a major source of livelihood for locals here,” said a resident of Arpora who requested anonymity.
The Sarpanch appealed to the PWD and electricity department to expedite restoration work, emphasising that timely repairs are essential to avoid any untoward incidents and ensure smooth movement in the area.
