Arrested LPCs remanded, apply for bail in constable suicide case

PANAJI

The two lady constables, Priti Chavan and Tanishka Chavan, arrested on charges of abetting the suicide of constable Prathamesh Gawade, have applied for bail.

The applications filed before the District and Sessions Court are expected to come up for hearing on Wednesday, with the Crime Branch set to oppose the pleas.

The duo, who were remanded to 14 days of judicial custody on Tuesday, were arrested a day prior after a day-long questioning at the Crime Branch office in Ribandar. Akash Chavan, also named by Gawade in his final video as responsible for his death, is allegedly absconding.

The CB registered an FIR against the three after the case was transferred from the local police station.

The 22-year-old constable had accused the two LPCs and Akash of “mental torture and harassment” in the video, which was initially overlooked by the department.
