MARGAO: There’s good news in store for budding local talent with plans to make performing art as a career.
The Department of Art and Culture will start a four-year bachelor course in performing art, theatre at the Kala Academy, with further plans to start a two-year Master’s course from the next academic year.
That’s not all. The Art and Culture Minister said Kala Bhavan under construction at Sancoale will house the bachelor, bridge course, besides the Master’s course in the near future. “The prospectus for the bachelor course will be out from the first week of June. At stake are 30 seats for both the Bachelor and Master degree course,” he said, exuding confidence that the bachelor degree course will receive huge response from the budding talent.
Replying to a question, he said the courses will be affiliated to the Goa University and will be conducted on the guidelines of the University Grants Commission.
On the status of Kala Bhavan, Sancoale, the Art and Culture Minister said that the institute is almost complete, but the government has now called for certain modifications which will cost the exchequer an additional Rs 25 crore. “The new college of performing art, theatre will have a new administrative block at the Kala Bhavan, Sancoale, with faculty of art, music and theatre. “The Kala Bhavan institute has still not been complete and the GSIDC is still carrying out the renovation work at the institute,” he added.
