PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the Goa government has begun working towards export vegetables produced in the State to foreign countries through Mopa Airport, with vegetable production in Goa increasing by 140%.
Addressing the Aatmanirbhar Bharat – Swayampurna Goa event, Sawant said, “There was a time when Goa imported 100% of its vegetables from Belagavi, while the State is now exporting vegetables to the neighbouring city.”
He said the Goa government has reached out to 52,400 farmers, connecting them with basic facilities and various farming schemes. He also highlighted the increase in vegetable production and exports, along with initiatives aimed at empowering farmers and promoting Nari Shakti.
Sawant further said that around three lakh marigold saplings were distributed to farmers across Goa using Indo-Israel technology. He said flowers worth crores of rupees that were earlier imported into Goa are now being cultivated within the State.
