As accidents rise, students join crusade for road safety

The Consumer Welfare Cell & NSS Unit of Government College of Commerce, Borda together with GOACAN on Monday organised a Road Safety Awareness Action outside the college to highlight various issues of road safety and traffic management.

Organised as part of the National Road Safety Month 2024, the hour-long awareness action had the participation of college students who were armed with placards, colourful flags and banners which had road safety messages for drivers, riders and pedestrians.

'Slow down, Observe speed limits, Save lives, Wear Seat belts for your Safety, Use only ISI marked Helmets, Respect the rights of Pedestrians at Zebra Crossings' were some of the messages that the students highlighted during the awareness action.

The students were also very vocal about their long-standing demand for proper Bus Stops and Speed Limit signage on the main road outside the College which is used by students from a High School, a Higher Secondary School, ITI and the college.

The Road Safety Awareness Action by the students was guided by GOACAN Co-ordinator Roland Martins, CWC Co-ordinator Dr Maria Fatima De Souza, NSS Co-ordinator Tanvi Sharmad Keny with the support of the Officiating Principal Dr F.M. Nadaf. The Awareness Action was also assisted by Sahil Sakhli Assistant Sub-Inspector Traffic Cell Margao and Percy Coutinho MVI Directorate of Transport (Enforcement) South.
