Several local political leaders and workers were seen campaigning alongside him, marking a significant show of backing after Naik resigned from the BJP and entered the fray as an independent.
Supporters said his decision had resonated with people who were looking for leadership that placed constituency interests above party considerations.
Addressing residents during the campaign, Achut Naik said his decision to resign from the BJP was driven by the need to speak freely for the people of Sancoale.
“I chose to contest as an independent because I want to work without pressure and without compromise. The response I am receiving from people and local leaders shows that they want an honest and committed voice to represent them,” he said.
Naik said his focus would remain on basic infrastructure, employment opportunities for youth and addressing long-pending civic issues in Sancoale.
“People are tired of promises. They want work on the ground, and that is exactly what I intend to deliver,” he added.
Several residents praised Naik for his accessibility and straightforward approach. A local resident said that Naik had remained in constant touch with the people even before announcing his candidature.
“He listens to problems patiently and follows them up. That is why many of us are standing with him today,” the resident said.
Another supporter pointed out that Naik’s resignation from the BJP had strengthened his credibility.
“It takes courage to step away and contest independently. People respect that courage, and that is why leaders and workers are joining him,” the supporter said.
