Asmitai Dis state-level event in Panaji on January 16

The Directorate of Official Language, Government of Goa, will celebrate the state-level ‘Asmitai Dis’ (Opinion Poll Day) on January 16, 2026, at 9.30 am at the main hall of the Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji. The programme is being organised in collaboration with the Goa State Biodiversity Board, Saligao, the Goa State Council of Science and Technology, Saligao, and the Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation, Porvorim.  

The programme will be held in the presence of the Chief Minister of Goa and Minister for Official Language Pramod Sawant, Minister for Science, Technology and Waste Management Atanasio Monserrate, and other dignitaries.  

During the function, applicants of GI-tagged Goan products and items will be felicitated. Kaushalya Mitra Cards will also be presented to individuals engaged in traditional Goan occupations such as cultivators and phulkars, vegetable vendors, padeli and toddy tappers, salt pan cultivators, fishermen, traditional healers, poder, jaggery makers, and handicraft workers using coconut malla, coconut shells and coir, as well as bamboo workers, grass mat makers, khajekar, shewkar, fowkar, chanekar and bankar.  

An exhibition of GI-tagged Goan products will be organised along with an exhibition and sale of GoVan products by the Goa State Biodiversity Board. A book exhibition will also be held. After the inaugural function, a musical programme titled ‘Asmitechi Geetam’ will be presented by the Directorate of Art and Culture and the Goa Konkani Akademi.  

Various events will also be organised across the state to mark Asmitai Dis by grantee institutions including the Goa Konkani Akademi, Dalgado Konkani Akademi, Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa, and the All India Konkani Parishad.  

The Goa Konkani Akademi will organise the Asmitecho Bhesrang programme at 9 am at Chetana Education Society’s School for Special Children, Curchorem. An elocution competition on ‘Asmitai Aani Tarnate’ will be held at 10 am at PM Shri Government High School, Thane-Sattari, in collaboration with Sahitya Manthan, Sattari.  

The Dalgado Konkani Akademi will organise Konkani Geet Sangeet at 9.30 am at St Thomas Church Hall, Cansaulim, and Kovita Saanj at 3.30 pm in Panaji.  

The Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa, will hold a quiz contest at Konkani Bhavan, Margao, from 8 am to 12 noon, followed by cultural programmes from 12 noon to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 6 pm at Gomant Vidya Niketan, Margao.  

The All India Konkani Parishad has organised competitions and cultural programmes for schools and higher secondary schools in Quepem taluka in collaboration with local organisations. Schools and colleges across the State will also organise competitions and awareness programmes. The Directorate of Official Language has appealed to the public to attend the programme.
