The tragic death of two students from St Xavier's College, Mapusa, in a car accident at Assagao in the wee hours of Sunday has cast a pall of gloom among the students and college faculty, as the news of the tragedy began to unfold by mid-noon on social media.
Students, teachers including the college principal of St Xavier's College were shocked and numbed on learning of the incident.
"Lee Ann was an amazing personality. She was a very smart girl and loved to help. She was a person who would always take the initiative and take the plunge for any activity. I have lost an amazing friend," said Rashiel Faria, who was very close to Lee Ann.
Lee Ann was a lover of animals and very fond of dogs. She was also a member of COOJ and volunteered to take part in social activities.
For Fr Ramiro Luis, it was even more tragic as all four were his students. He taught them psychology.He described the deceased students as bright. "Lee Ann was very progressive in her thoughts and had great dreams and one of the excellent students in my class. Ethen was another livewire in the class. He would say something and lift the mood in the class," Fr Ramiro said.
He said besides him the whole class was in a state of shock.
"For me to face the class on Tuesday will be very challenging. I will have to prepare to face the class without these two students," he said.
Another college faculty, Anzil Fernandes, described Lee Ann Rocha as a very bright and cheerful student who was always helpful. "She was part of our group running the campaign ‘Vote responsibly for Goa' before the March 2017 assembly elections," Fernandes said.
At the homes of the two students, family and friends, including neighbours, were in total disbelief. The parents of Lee Ann Rocha were in a state of shock and were unable to speak, sources said.
