Assagao demolition: HC denies interim relief to Pooja Sharma

PANAJI
The absconding accused in the Assagao house demolition, Pooja Sharma has challenged the dismissal of her anticipatory bail plea in the Bombay High Court at Goa. During the arguments scheduled on Friday afternoon, her lawyer Adv Surendra Desai sought interim relief from arrest, which was denied by Justice Bharat Deshpande.

Desai argued that political influence was affecting the case, a claim refuted by Additional Public Prosecutor Pravin Faldessai, who maintained that the investigation was independent and fair.

“CM visited the demolished site as the head of the State. His visit doesn't indicate political influence,” Faldessai argued, requesting time to file a reply to the criminal revision application. The Court has adjourned the matter to July 15.

Earlier, in the trial court that rejected her anticipatory bail plea, Sharma alleged that some politicians were involved in the matter and that the police were misusing their power by creating imaginary grounds for her arrest. She also questioned the presence of CM Sawant and MLA couple Michael and Delilah Lobo at the site soon after the demolition.
