Acknowledging that parts of Assagao failed to get adequate supply of pipeline water, the Assagao gram sabha on Sunday unanimously passed a resolution urging the PWD to take immediate steps to resolve the water problem in the village.

The gram sabha also decided to install at least 45 traffic signboards and 30 rumblers at various places in the village.

Raising the issue of lack of pipeline water supply in Assagao, a local said it was a matter of shame that more than 50 years after Liberation, the villagers were still struggling to get drinking water.

“We get water in our area every alternate day and that too for only an hour. Despite of raising the issue of poor water supply the panchayat has done very little to resolve it,” he said.

Sympathizing with the local, Sarpanch Jallinder Goankar said that the panchayat was regularly following up the matter with the PWD assistant engineer and the junior engineer. He informed that the overhead tank in the area was not getting water supply and there was urgent need to lay a new pipeline.

Areas of Munang, Badem, Bounta-vaddo and Sokoilo-vaddo faced acute water supply problem.

The gram sabha decided to write to PWD (water) executive engineer to take immediate steps to resolve the water problem.

Former sarpanch, Pradeep Naik informed that Assagao Comunidade had developed plots and handed them to people who have houses and owned large tracts of land.

The sarpanch said locals should be given preference and requested the Comunidade to offer such plots to poor people from the village.

Pradeep Naik also condemned the PWD for failing to hot-mix part of the road in his area during the recent hot-mixing work taken up in the village.

Since several tourists going to Anjuna and Vagator beach passed through their village, the gram sabha resolved to install traffic signboards at various spots and crucial junctions in the village.

“At least 45 such signboards including six big boards will be erected at an approximate cost of Rs 1.20 lakth at various places in the village,” the sarpanch informed The Goan.

Consenting to the demand of locals, the gram sabha also resolved to install rumblers at various places in the village.

“We have a proposal to erect 30 such rumblers at different spots but the final call will be taken by the collector,” the sarpanch said.
