Assembly election will be different ball game for alliance: Tanavade

MAPUSA

BJP Goa President Sadanand Tanavade expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will secure a decisive victory in the 2027 Assembly elections, despite the possibility of an alliance among opposition parties.

Tanavade pointed out that any alliance formed by the opposition might face internal challenges, as candidates from these parties could choose to run as independents, potentially altering the election dynamics.

Additionally, Tanavade argued that an alliance in the parliamentary polls does not necessarily indicate an alliance in the assembly polls.

He further pointed out that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has gained traction in traditional Congress strongholds, diverting votes away from the Congress rather than the BJP.

"The alliance of the opposition is not going to affect us. We have no problem. Strategically we will win the 2027 assembly polls for sure," Tanavade stated.

He emphasised that different types of elections “ ZP, municipality, panchayat, assembly, or parliamentary “ should be considered distinct from each other.

Citing the recent Zilla Panchayat (ZP) polls in Benaulim, where the BJP did not field a candidate, Tanavade explained that Benaulim has never been a BJP stronghold and thus the result there does not concern the party.

“We must understand that the whole politics of Goa does not depend on Benaulim, Velim, and Nuvem. Our concern in South Goa is Sanvordem, Sanguem, Quepem, Curchorem, Canacona, etc. because these are our constituencies. And in these constituencies, we will have no problem even if all the opposition comes together,” he elaborated.

Tanavade also highlighted the BJP's strong position in North Goa, asserting that the party is secure in 19 to 20 constituencies.

He noted that some effort might be needed in Calangute and St Andre, but expressed confidence in Aldona and St Cruz, where the party narrowly lost in the parliamentary elections by 80 and 76 votes, respectively.

“We are not worried about the alliance as their coming together will have no impact on the party. We are 100 per cent winning 2027,” Tanavade concluded confidently.
