Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday announced in the Legislative Assembly that the State government will extend the deadline for applications under the Mhaje Ghar Yojana by one more year. The move will provide relief to hundreds of applicants whose proposals are still pending due to procedural delays.
The assurance came after Kedar Naik, MLA from Saligao, raised the issue in the House and drew the government’s attention to the April 3 cut-off date for submitting applications under the scheme.
Naik informed the House that many applications are still pending as applicants are waiting for consent letters from the Comunidade as well as approvals from the Administrator of Comunidades. He said several proposals are also under scrutiny with different departments, which has delayed the completion of the application process.
He pointed out that many applicants could miss the deadline despite having started the process and urged the government to extend the cut-off date in the larger public interest.
“In view of the number of applications still pending due to procedural requirements and administrative scrutiny, the government should extend the deadline so that genuine applicants are not deprived of the benefits of the scheme,” Naik said.
Responding to the concerns, Sawant assured the House that the government would extend the deadline by another year. This will allow more eligible beneficiaries to apply and complete the required formalities.
The extension is expected to benefit several applicants across the State who are yet to obtain mandatory clearances, particularly in cases where consent from Comunidades is required for processing housing proposals under the scheme.
The Mhaje Ghar Yojana aims to help eligible residents build houses by providing necessary permissions and facilitating the regularisation of land and housing proposals. The extended deadline will give applicants more time to complete documentation and obtain the required approvals.
