Accepting that the biggest challenge of the government was tackling unemployment, Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant on Sunday assured to generate at least 10,000 jobs in the State within the next two years.
He also said that his government was on the threshold of resolving the mining imbroglio and the Mhadei issue will also tackled in right earnest.
“Our biggest hurdle has been providing employment to the youth. For the last one year we had to impose an embargo on job creation and therefore could not carry out recruitment. But in the next two years we will advertise 8,000 to 10,000 jobs in various departments,” Sawant said.
The chief minister was addressing a Zilla Panchayat election corner meeting at Verla-Canca. Former WRD minister and BJP Vice President, Dayanand Mandrekar and the BJP candidate for the Anjuna constituency Niharika Mandrekar and other karyakartas were also present.
Continuing, Sawant said providing government jobs to each and every one was near to impossible and therefore efforts will be made to provide jobs to unemployed youth in the private sector.
“It’s very easy to slam the government for failure to provide employment. But I want to tell you’ll that even if God comes down, he will not be able to provide so many jobs,” he said.
He said the government has taken up skill development in a big way in an attempt to resolve the unemployment problem in the State.
Slamming the opposition for criticizing his government for borrowing loans, the CM said that government borrowing was carried out within permissible limit and basically to fund various development works in the State.
“The government is taking loans not to celebrate but to take the development work forward. Not a single development work has been halted in the State for lack of funds. There may be some delay in payments but works have not stopped,” he said.
Sawant exhorted the gathering to work hard to elect both the candidates from Siolim constituency with a thumping lead.
“We should not commit the same mistake we did in 2017. Our MLA lost by a very thin majority then. We will elect both our ZP candidates and we will re-elect our MLA in 2022 assembly polls,” he said.
Former WRD minister and BJP Vice President, Dayanand Mandrekar also spoke on the occasion. the goan I network
