Horticulture corp opens AC veggie outlet in Mapusa
Attempt to provide fresh vegetables amidst clean environment

The Goa State Horticulture Corporation Ltd (GSHCL) opened its first “hygienic” vegetable outlet with much fanfare in Mapusa expecting to provide “fresh” experience in retailing of veggies to the consumers in town.
Unlike the GSHCL’s former outlets which supplied veggies in small shops, the new vegetable outlet in Mapusa market will operate from spacious and fully air-conditioned premises.
Inaugurating the new outlet on Friday, Deputy Chief Minister, Francis D’Souza said horticulture GSHCL was doing a good job in bringing fresh vegetables and flowers to the people.
“With the new concept of providing clean and spacious environment for consumers, we expect the horticulture corporation to supply quality material at competitive price,” D’Souza said.
He said at first he found it a bit odd for the corporation to open a vegetable outlet in the heart of Mapusa market where vegetables were found to be sold in plenty.
“But I have realized the price of the veggies sold in the corporation outlet was very competitive and this will help to stabilize the rates in the open market,” he said.
GSHCL Chairman, Kiran Kandolkar said the new hygienic outlet was the first project in North Goa and similar outlets will be opened in South Goa too.
“The veggies sold in corporation’s outlets are cheaper by almost 20 per cent as compared to those sold by other retailers. Besides in the new outlets we are attempting to provide fresh vegetables to the consumers,” Kandolkar said.
He reiterated that the corporation will soon shutdown 50 of its outlets that were not providing proper service to the people.
“Some of these outlets opened just for one hour or did not provide proper vegetables to the consumers. Our officers will identify such outlets and notices will be served on them,” the GSHCL chairman said.
The new Mapusa outlet has been opened by Chandranath Raul, a resident from Camurlim, Tivim.
