Austrian dies in self road accident

A foreigner died in a self-accident while riding a two-wheeler in Anjuna on Sunday evening.

The deceased, Mark Thomas (52), an Austrian national was residing in Assagao.  
Anjuna Police informed that the deceased was travelling from Anjuna to Arpora on a two-wheeler 
(GA-03-J-1934).  
When he reached near the Tembi ground, his two-wheeler skidded round a bend and he was thrown off the bike. 
He suffered serious head injuries. The incident occurred at around 4 pm in 
Anjuna.  
He was immediately shifted to St Anthony’s Hospital and Research Centre, Anjuna, where he was declared brought dead on arrival. 
Anjuna police are investigating the case.

Open cast iron ore mining in Goa has left its mark not only on Goa’s landscape and countryside but also on the seabed, with a study by a team of researchers at the National Institute of Oceanography suggesting that a sharp increase in sedimentation corresponded with an increase in mining in the State.
