VASCO
According to police sources, the accused, Shrikant alias Shirsha Rathod, had a bail plea hearing at the JMFC Court Vasco and the judge granted bail to Rathod.
The source said the Konkan Railway Police had also wanted Rathod in its custody for interrogation in other theft cases.
Confusion prevailed as the KR Police tried to nab him, when the counsel representing Rathod demanded the arrest warrant from the KR Police.
As both the counsel and the police began arguing on the issue, the accused suddenly pushed the policemen, ran on the first floor and jumped off a window without grills and fled, informed the source.
Verna PI Uday Parab, who was on Carnival float parade duty at Vasco, told media persons that Rathod was granted bail by the court and when he saw the KRC policemen in civil uniform, he fled. “Rathod did not flee but when he saw the Konkan Railway policemen, he got scared and ran away,” said PI Parab and added “The KR policemen came without any arrest document and as Rathod was released on bail, he just ran away from the court premises”.
Sources at Vasco Police station said this is the second case where an accused in a similar manner had jumped off through the same window and fled away in 2007.
