Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer Deepali Naik flagged off the Carnival float parade in the presence of the Vasco Carnival Committee members. There were total 60 floats that included commercial, clowns and traditional categories.
The floats after flagging off were delayed almost for one hour. The officials were not ready to move the King Momo float unless the power supply was cut off, stating that the low-lying power supply cables to the residents would hamper the movement of the vehicles.
Hundreds of revellers who had assembled along both sides of the Swatantra Path road were seen getting restless and some even broke the barricades and came on
the road.
However, realising that people are getting restless, Chief Officer Naik directed the electricity department to shut off the power supply till the King Momo vehicle could reach the stage and the floats started rolling at 4.30 pm, much to the relief of the people.
The traditional floats added the much needed spice as people were seen cheering as the floats passed by.
