Dempo SC down Vasco SC, 1-0

Dempo Sports Club beat ten-man Vasco Sports Club 1-0 in the Goa Professional League match at Duler Stadium, here, on Tuesday. Joy Ferrao scored the all-important goal in the 12th minute.
The Golden Eagles came in strong and within three minutes of play made their first attempt on goal, but unfortunately Germanpreet Singh’s shot was too powerful and flew above the goalpost. Vasco held the edge over ball possession and created more scoring chances but failed to get past Laxmikant Kattimani, the goalkeeper of Dempo SC.
In the 12th minute, Dempo were awarded a corner which was taken by Beevan D'Mello and Joy Ferrao converted the attempt into the first goal, putting his side 1-0 ahead. Vasco tried their best to reduce the margin. In the 34th minute, Chinedu Ejiogu passed the ball to Sudesh Muttath and then Jerose Oliveira shot the ball inches away from the goal to deny Vasco the equaliser.
In the 43rd minute, Joy Ferrao, injured his knee while attempting to score as he toppled over the goalkeeper of Vasco who came forward to stop the ball. He was taken out on a stretcher and Dempo had to play the last two minutes of the first half with one man down. At half time the score was 1-0.
In the second session, Milagres Gonsalves replaced Joy Ferrao. Vasco bounced back but were not successful because the Dempo defence was solid under Chika Wali, who was the driving force. In the 52nd minute Sudesh Muttath was shown the red card and sent off for a rough tackle on Milagres Gonsalves, ace striker of Dempo SC.
In the 76th minute, Uttam Rai headed the ball beautifully towards the goal but misjudged and the ball went wide. In the 80th minute, Beevan D’Mello tried hard to get another goal for Dempo but his stiff grounder was saved by the rival keeper. Again in the 85th minute, he tried to breach the goal but his shot sailed over the crossbar.
