Authorities commended over conviction in human trafficking case

MARGAO

Bailancho Ekvott Convenor Auda Viegas has said the recent ruling from the Margao Sessions Court, which resulted in the conviction of an individual for involvement in a prostitution ring, reaffirms Goa’s commitment to justice and human dignity.

“This decision marks the third successful conviction in cases related to human trafficking in the state. This decisive action sends a powerful message that Goa will not tolerate such heinous activities and stands firm in upholding the law of the land,” Auda told the media on Wednesday.

While commending the exemplary work of the Colva Police team led by PI Melson Colaco, whose dedication and efforts have been instrumental in bringing the perpetrators to account, Auda said her NGO has been involved in several raids and rescue operations by assisting the police force for several years.

“It is with immense satisfaction and pride that we witness the fruits of our collaborative endeavours as the ends of justice are served and will send a deterrent message to all those attempting to carry on such illegal activities and thrive on earnings from women’s bodies,” she said.

She added: “Together, we stand united in the fight against human trafficking, and we look forward to a future where such crimes are relegated to the past, and Goa is known as a safe haven for all”.
