Taking serious cognizance of issues of sanitation at the Cutbona fishing jetty and poor public toilets at the KTC bus stand, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Margao, Uday Prabhdesai on Tuesday issued instructions to the Fisheries department as well as the KTC corporation to tone up the sanitation amenities at the two places.
Chairing a high level meeting with representatives of various agencies, SDM Prabhudesai told the fisheries officials not to take the sanitation problem for granted, saying he would take up the issue with the district Collector, South to initiate legal proceedings against the Fisheries department.
When the Fisheries officials pointed out that they had asked the Tourism department to install mobile toilets, but had issues over the maintenance, Prabhudesai said the responsibility towards the upkeep and maintenance of the sanitation lies with the Department of Fisheries since it owns the Cutbona jetty.
Prabhudesai later told the media that the Fisheries department cannot abdicate its responsibility in respect of the sanitation at the Cutbona jetty.
“If the Fisheries is not ready to shoulder the responsibility, I will submit a report to the district Collector to initiate legal proceedings at the Cutbona fishing jetty,” Prabhudesai added. The Fisheries department submitted details of the STP plant proposed at the Cutbona fishing jetty to boost sanitation amenities at the jetty.
The SDM further directed the Fisheries officials to keep a track on the migrant labour employed on the fishing vessels so that the workers subject themselves for screening at the health centre opened at the fishing jetty.
As far as public sanitation is concerned, the SDM pulled up the KTC official, seeking to know whether a bare four urinals at the Sulabh toilet at the Margao KTC bus stand is adequate enough to take care of the requirements of hundreds, if not thousands of commuters, using the KTC
bus stand.
When the official submitted that a new bus stand is being planned at Margao, which will cater to the sanitation requirements, the SDM directed the KTC to upgrade the sanitary facilities pending
the construction of the new bus stand.
Margao flyover is strong & stable: KRC
MARGAO: The Konkan Railway Corporation has told the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Margao on Tuesday that an audit has shown that the Margao flyover is strong and stable, but made it abundantly clear the responsibility of carrying out repairs on the surface of the flyover rests with the PWD, National Highways.
SDM Uday Prabhudesai told The Goan that the Konkan Railway has submitted a structural stability report which showed that the Margao flyover is strong and stable. He, however, said that the responsibility of removing the potholes on the surface of the flyover, which had invited criticism from the commuters in recent times, rest with the PWD, National Highways.
