MARGAO
Officials of the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) and the Goa State Bio-Diversity Board (GSBB) on Wednesday conducted an inspection at Betalbatim to find out whether the demolition order to raze down illegal structures have been complied with and the restoration of the sand dune in question.

While the structures were found removed from the sand dune, complainant in the case, social activist Judith Almeida told the media that lot needs to be done at the site.

She also demanded that the Goa State Bio-Diversity Board should submit a plan of action how the Board will go about in the restoration of the sand dune. “Some of the structures were found cleared from the site during the inspection. However, a couple of items were still found on the property in question,” Judith added.

The inspection was ordered by GCZMA Member Secretary Johnson Fernandes to find out whether the demolition order dated July 3, 2019 passed by the Authority directing demolition of structures in the property at village Betalbatim and restoration of sand dunes is complied with.

The inspection comes against the backdrop of the representation received from the party stating that the structures in property have been demolished and that he has complied with the demolition order dated 03/07/2019.
