It’s exactly a month now since the Supreme Court had cleared all decks for the demolition of the Hotel Silver Sands, but the authorities concerned are passing the buck over the demolition of the structures.
After the PWD expressed its inability to raze down the structures on the ground that the demolition requires the job of a specialized agency, the demolition squad, South, has dashed off a letter to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) to arrange funds to the extent of Rs 13.89 lakh and remit the same in favour of either the Collector, South or the Executive Engineer, PWD, VI.
Demolition Squad, Deputy Collector, Margao Prasad Volvoikar drew the attention of the GCZMA to the estimate prepared by the PWD amounting to Rs 13.89 lakh towards demolition of the high rise structures of Hotel Silver Sands since it requires different types of machinery, not available with the PWD.
PWD Executive Engineer, Prasad Panandikar, had also asked the district authorities to obtain the consent of the competent authority to undertake the demolition work by inviting quotations as e-tendering will consume nearly two months time. Owners of Hotel Silver Sands, Colva, had received a big blow in their attempt to stall the demolition of the hotel when the Supreme Court on April 8 dismissed the Special Leave Petition filed by the hotel challenging the order of the Bombay HC at Goa.
