Award for senior citizens

PANAJI

The Goan Cultural Association (GCA), Mumbai, has instituted Obrigad “ Senior Citizen’s Life Time Achievement Award for those members who have completed 75 years on January 1, 2016. Senior Citizen’s Appreciation Day will be an occasion to celebrate, recognise and support the seniors for the valuable contributions they have made to their families, relatives, friends and the Goan community, stated GCA in a press release.

GCA wishes to express its gratitude not with a simple ‘thank you’ or by giving a bouquet of flowers, but by felicitating the seniors in a traditional way in the presence of a larger audience, thus by sending out a message that the association truly respects its members.

“Our seniors deserve to be honoured during their life time as they have made tremendous sacrifices, shared their valuable experiences and taught us timeless lessons of courage, responsibilities, perseverance and love,” said GCA committee members, John Fernandes (chairman), Jilian D'souza (secretary) and Joseph Silveira (treasurer).

After scrutiny of the priority list annually, the names and photographs of five nominees of the award will be declared in the November issue of I C Church Communique. The award will be presented on senior citizens appreciation day at a musical programme. The award comprises a shawl, certificate of appreciation and celebration cake.
