Offering no let up in its pace in the run up to the elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday unleashed its second list of candidates naming another seven who have thrown their hat in the ring including former Congress MLA Giovanni Karl Vaz.
Announcing the names, AAP’s media head Rupesh shinkre said that the names were approved by the party’s political affairs committee headed by Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday.
On Wednesday the party inducted former bureaucrat Elvis Gomes who is expected to be the leading candidate in the State.
Besides Vaz for Mormugao, the party has announced the names of Roila Clarina Fernandes a sitting panch and former sarpanch of Benaulim constituency, Raponkar leader Olencio Simoes for Cortalim, Surel Tilve a youth leader and member of the Konkani Bhasha Mandal to take on the might of MGP leader and PWD Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar in Marcaim, Devendra Prabhu Parsekar Desai a former member of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party in Mandrem, Sitaram Gauns a former member of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Poriem and Dr Prithviraj Amonkar an active AAP member and adventure enthusiast in Siolim.
The party sought to advertise the fact that the candidates are young and clean faces.
“We cannot change politics unless we change the people who join politics. In Delhi the average age of members in the legislative assembly is 42 which is the least among all the states in the country,” party’s Panaji candidate Valmiki Naik said.
Of the current list they have declared, Roila Fernandes, Olencio Simoes and Surel Tilve are all below 40 with the youngest being Olencio Simoes at 30 years.
The only senior and experienced member of their team is Karl Vaz.
AAP’s leader Dr Oscar Rebello appealed to the people to come forward and support their candidates to bring about a change in Goa’s politics.
“It is up to the people of Goa to support these candidates in the run up to the elections and come out and vote for them,” Rebello said.
