The goan I networkPANAJI The two-day event preceding the beginning of the main event on October 14 and 15, brought together trade unions from within the country as well as from the BRICS nations of Brazil and South Africa. Speaking at the concluding session, All India Union of Forest Working People (AIUFWP) general secretary Roma Malik said, "There is a need to save land, forests, water and livelihood from the capitalist and imperial politics. We need to do this by forming cooperatives and create new societies. Capitalist and imperial methods need to be ousted with strong people's movements."Members of the meeting also called for an alliance of the three countries that had had a history of political and people's movements. On the first day of the meeting, most of the speakers emphasised on the need for the civil society in these countries to set a people's agenda that can overcome the consumerist and destructive agendas of capitalists. Maria Luisa Belo, who was representing the feminist movement in Brazil, spoke about the threat that democracies across the world are facing today. "The new government that came to came to power after the recent coup has already taken anti-people measures," she said. Maria, in her speech, read out the demand of the feminist movements in Brazil that is calling upon the world's institutions, including BRICS, to come up with a people's agenda to defeat patriarchy and poverty.
BRICS forum for new world order to keep capitalists in check
Concluding the two-day parallel summit called the People's Forum on BRICS, members of civic societies and groups from Brazil, South Africa and India called for a new world order to counter the corporatization of every sector, including farming and fishing.
