Awareness talk on human rights held

Human Rights Defenders - an NGO, held an awareness talk on December 10, World Human Rights Day, on the topic of human rights in Margao.
Speaking on this occasion, the chief guest Adv Jagdish Prabhudesai, expressed the need to enhance power of the State Human Rights Commission, while urging the public to identify areas of human rights violations and find solutions to them.
Adv Prabhudesai said to be able to perform one's duty without any fear is an inalienable right. He also called on people to be vigilant about the rights of others. He said it is everybody's responsibility to maintain eternal vigilance.
Dr Sneha Bhagwat claimed that the 'Right to Health' begins right from a woman's womb. She felt it is the government's duty to see that the workplace has a conducive environment.
Senior programme manager of 'ARZ' Vijayashree Irraker claimed that every individual has human rights which cannot be taken away, such as education, food, etc. “It is the responsibility of the State to see that human rights of the people are not violated,” she remarked.
Those present on this ocasion included president Advino Fernandes, joint secretary Madhav Virdikar and programme co-ordinator Allwyn Teles.
