PANAJI

Union AYUSH Minister and Minister of State for Defence, Shripad Naik was discharged from Manipal Hospital on Saturday afternoon after he made full recovery from Covid-19.

Naik had tested positive for Covid-19 along with his wife on August 12 and was admitted to Manipal Hospital at Dona Paula on the following day.

During this period, his health deteriorated twice and doctors were flown in both the times with the first 2-member team being called in on August 18 from All India Institute of Medical Sciences and then again, on August 24, a five-member team of doctors from AIIMS and Army Hospital (R&R).

He was administered among other medications, plasma therapy, Remdesivir and High Flow Nasal Oxygen (HFNO). As his health improved, the doctors decided against airlifting him to AIIMS, New Delhi for further treatment. He had tested negative for the infection in the last week of August.

Speaking to the media after being discharged, a visibly frailer Naik said, “After having rested for all these days, I feel as good as new. I will have to rest some more so that my strength returns to normal and I can return to work.”

He has thanked all his well- wishers for their prayers and support.
