The South Goa Sessions Court has released on bail the two accused arrested in the Sheikh Anwar attempt to murder case.
In separate orders, Additional Sessions Judge Vincent D’Silva ordered the release of Vasant Amir Gavande and Imram Bepari on a personal bond of Rs 25,000 each. The duo has been further directed to furnish identical sureties in the like amount.
Judge D’Silva further directed the two accused not to influence the witnesses and that they shall not leave Goa without the permission of the court and shall furnish residential address.
The court also directed that the accused shall not commit an offense similar to the offense alleged to have been committed by them in the present case and or any other offence.
The duo was arrested by the Fatorda police on February 22 in connection with the armed attack on Sheikh Anwar alias Tiger which took place in broad daylight near the Arlem junction on February 21.
While granting bail, the judge, in separate orders, pointed out that the State has filed the charge sheet in the case and that no further investigation is required in the present case.
“The mere fact that the accused is involved in other crimes cannot be a ground to deny the accused a bail in the present case. The contention that the accused has criminal antecedents and that they are habitual offenders also cannot be accepted as there is nothing on record that the duo has been convicted under the Habitual Offenders Act, 1976”, Judge D’Silva said.
He further observed that the submission of the state that there is possibility of the accused of absconding from trial or likelihood of influencing the witnesses has no merits as there is no whisper in the applications for remand about such a possibility.

MARGAO: The accused in the Cenvic Pires attempt to murder case, Ayub Sayed and Anik Kumar will have to wait till June 29 to know the fate of their bail applications after the South Goa Sessions Court on Thursday adjourned the matter after the victim filed an intervention application before the Court.
The bail applications of the two accused came up for hearing before the Sessions Court in the attempt to murder case.
Adv Seoula Avilia Vas, who appeared for the victim argued that the intervention is the right of the victim and prayed for the rejection of the bail applications.
On 29 June, the court will decide whether the victim will be allowed representation in the matter and also decide on the bail application.
