With the number of Covid positive cases on the decline in the State, the government has denotified all government hospitals as Covid hospitals with the exception of the super specialty block of Goa Medical College, Bambolim and South Goa District Hospital, Margao.
However, private hospitals having the full facilities to treat Covid patients will be permitted to admit and treat Covid patients as per the capacity of their hospitals.
GMC and SGDH have a capacity of a total of around 1000 beds that are available for Covid patients.
With the new order, the ESI Hospital, Margao which has a capacity of 235 beds, Sub District Hospital, Ponda (150 beds), North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa (104 beds), Majestic Covid Care Center (60 beds), Sub District Hospital, Chicalim (35) will now have to shift all Covid patients either to GMC or SGDH.
Also, many private hospitals which were not having Intensive Care Unit facility for the treatment of Covid patients will not be able to admit any Covid patients.
The government, it may be recalled, had earlier given 21 private hospitals permission for treating Covid-19 patients.
In May, the government had decided to take over the rights to admission in all these hospitals citing various violations of norms.
