The Nayak family has alleged the possible involvement of an insider in the armed dacoity at their sixth-floor flat in Baina, pointing to the precision, planning and behaviour of the eight-member gang that assaulted the family and escaped with valuables worth lakhs.
Speaking to reporters, Sagar Nayak’s brother Prasad said the brutality of the assault and the level of coordination indicated clear familiarity with the building’s layout and the family’s home.
“They avoided all major CCTV points and came at a time when the entire building was asleep. This looks like a group that had done its homework,” he said.
Prasad added that the suspects appeared to know the exact entry point, choosing the backside of the building adjoining a nearly abandoned structure with no residents.
“They picked the only route with almost zero CCTV coverage. They also seemed to know my brother’s floor plan in detail ” where to cut the iron gate, which window had no grill, and which bedroom my brother, his wife and daughter were sleeping in,” he said. Despite the flat having three bedrooms, Prasad noted the dacoits focused only on the room where the family slept and the areas where valuables were kept.
“They knew exactly where the lockers, cupboards and cash were. They did not waste time breaking open other doors. This shows someone guided them.”
Prasad also described the gang as “Chindi Chor” ” small-time, cheap thieves ” based on their behaviour inside the flat.
“They looted gold, silver and cash worth lakhs, but still opened the refrigerator, ate ice creams and even carried an entire ice-cream basket with them. They stole our chilled water bottles from the fridge. If that was not enough, they even took Nakshatra’s piggy bank,” he said.
He recalled how the 15-year-old had saved money over months, exchanging loose notes for Rs 500 notes kept safely in her piggy bank.
“During the assault, when she tried to shield her father, she suffered blows on her hand. She even pleaded with them not to beat her parents and told them about her piggy bank. They had bags full of valuables but still took a child’s savings,” Prasad said.
Police teams are currently analysing CCTV footage that captured the gang entering the premises around 2 am and re-entering the lift at 2.55 am carrying bags believed to contain stolen items. Investigators are probing the possibility of insider involvement while attempting to identify the eight suspects.
