Balli VP takes up sanitation works with public funds

Strange it may seem, but true that the Balli village panchayat has toned up public sanitation in the village, not with government or Panchayat funds, but with contributions from the villagers.
In fact, a ground-plus one store public toilet has been put in place in the village and which will be opened for the public from Sunday.
Addressing the media, Balli Sarapnch Raju Gosavi said he had the vision to take up public-oriented projects in the village when he became a panch member “ to tone up sanitation and set up a cremation ground in the village. “The Panchayat had a small area near the Panchayat Ghar. Since there was no public toilet in the village, we decided to build the toilet block with contributions from the public. People have donated generously to the project, both in cash and kind. It has cost the panchayat Rs 7-8 lakhs to put up the toilet block and the entire funds have come from public donations,” he said.
While the public toilet will be opened on Sunday, the Sarpanch said the Panchayat has now decided to go for a cremation ground in the event the land is made available by a religious institution. “Like the public toilet, we will set up the cremation ground with public donations and contributions,” he said, adding that the Panchayat has already written letters to the government as well as the religious institutions to make available the land to set up the cremation.
