The Crime Branch (CB) on Saturday launched an investigation into the Banastarim fatal accident by forming a dedicated special team. CB Superintendent of Police Nidhin Valsan and his team visited the accident site, 24 hours after the case was transferred from the Mardol police station.
The CB took over the case papers soon after Inspector General of Police Omvir Singh ordered handing over the case 'for further investigation.'
Sources said the CB might reconstruct the accident scene to strengthen its probe while more witnesses are expected to depose.
It is also learnt that the CB will be pressing for Meghana Sawardekar's questioning even as she has challenged the summons issued by Mardol police before the High Court. Her husband, Shripad Sinai alias Paresh -- accused of driving the Mercedes Benz car in drunken state killing three and seriously injuring other motorists -- has been in judicial custody.
"Although the CB is continuing the investigation, the investigation team could once again record statements of some witnesses and victims. Paresh's further interrogation is also not ruled out. Every bit of the case angle will be probed," an officer said.
