In fact, AAP workers and a group of people virtually came face to face over the stolen banners right at the main gate of the government multipurpose school, Borda around noon just hours before the launching of MLA Vijai Sardesai’s election campaign from the ground. Commotion was witnessed near the gate as AAP workers bitterly protested against the removal of banners which were put up along the roadside near the multipurpose school. While the AAP workers, including Wenzy pointed accusing fingers at the rival group for stealing the banners, the rival group denied the same.
Later, a delegation of AAP workers led by party Fatorda candidate Ranjit Cotta Carvalho went to the Margao police station and lodged a complaint of theft of banners put up in the constituency.
In his complaint, Carvalho pointed out that the banners were put up at several places in the constituency after obtaining the licence from the Margao Municipal Council. He pegged the value of the stolen banners to Rs 63,600. “The banners were put up by our volunteers on November 12 during the day, he said, while making an appeal to the party’s political opponents to follow the true principles of democracy at least in Fatorda and ensure that every candidate’s right to canvas and right to advertise is protected and that they should not attempt to pull down each other’s banners.
