Demands Commission to probe Offices of Sub Registrars for corruption

MARGAO: The Bar Association of Quepem and Sanguem has demanded that the Government of Goa immediately constitute a Commission headed by a retired High Court Judge to determine the corrupt practices/wrongdoing going on in the Offices of the Sub Registrars in the entire state of Goa and to expose the staff of the Sub-Registrars and the lawyers who are involved in such corrupt practices/wrongdoings.
The Association has further demanded that since the Law Minister Alexio Sequeira has publicly admitted his failure as a Law Minister to stop corruption, it is incumbent and but natural that the Law Minister tender his resignation from the Cabinet immediately failing which the Bar Association of Quepem and Sanguem requests the Chief Minister of Goa with folded hands to immediately sack the incapable Law Minister from his position.
In a representation made to the Prime Minister of India, besides President of India, Chief Minister of Goa, the Bar Association President Sanjit Desai said it is very shameful that the Law Minister of the Government of Goa has candidly admitted his failure as a Law Minister by admitting that he is unable to do anything to stop the corruption in the Office of the Sub Registrar which functions under his administration.
The Association further demanded that since the Law Minister has made a statement of wrongdoings by the Sub Registrars it is necessary that the assets of all the Sub Registrars and staff in the State of Goa along with their family members be assessed annually to determine if they have acquired assets disproportionate to their income.
“It is an admitted position that most lawyers and litigants are made to suffer endlessly for any of their works to be done in the Office of the Sub Registrars”, the Association said.
Desai recalled that the Law Minister had on December 4 made a bold statement at the inauguration of the Advocates Room in the South Goa Collectorate Building stating that there are wrongdoings going on in the Office of the Sub Registrar and that he is convinced that the staff of the Sub-Registrar and the Advocates are working hand-in-glove in carrying out corrupt practices that are taking place in the Office of the Sub Registrar.
