MAPUSA
All abandoned construction sites across Bardez will be brought under the scrutiny of Urban Health Centres (UHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs), with project promoters required to mandatorily display boards detailing licences, NOCs, and contact information to enable swift action by sanitary inspectors in case of health risks.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Bardez Block Committee for Vector Borne Diseases Control held in Mapusa under the chairmanship of Joint Mamlatdar of Bardez, as authorities stepped up preventive measures ahead of the monsoon.
The committee also resolved to organise sensitisation workshops for licensed labour contractors in coordination with the Labour Department, aimed at ensuring better protection of construction workers from vector-borne diseases.
In addition, municipal councils and village panchayats have been urged to undertake pre-monsoon cleanliness drives during April and May to curb the spread of such diseases.
It was further decided to observe World Malaria Day on April 25 at UHC Mapusa and all PHCs across Bardez, with a focus on highlighting the importance of community participation in preventing vector-borne diseases.
Member Secretary Block Level Committee, Dr Dinesh Parab of Mapusa Urban Health Centre, Dr Sikander Talwar, MO incharge Porvorim PHC, Dr Prajakta Lotlikar, MO incharge, Saligao PHC, Dr Shubra Bhonsle Colvale PHC and GOACAN Co-ordinator Roland Martins were present at the meeting.
