Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said the ongoing national highway expansion works led to constant breakdown of PWD water pipelines, but expected the water problem in Bardez and Mapusa to be resolved soon as work to fix a parallel pipeline was in the final stage.

“Breakdown of water pipelines has been happening regularly due to ongoing highway work. But work to fit a parallel pipeline is in the final stage. Even in Porvorim…it is being delayed by four to five days. Once it is completed, there will not be any water issue in Mapusa and Bardez,” Sawant said.

The chief minister was interacting with the media during an inspection of the NH66 expansion work at Karasvaddo, Mapusa.

PWD Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar, senior department engineers and officials of M Venkat Rao Infra Projects Pvt Ltd, which is contracted the highway expansion work, were present during the inspection.

Speaking further, Sawant said the water issue will be resolved as work to fix a new water pipeline parallel to the existing one was underway.

“The work is expected to be completed within a few days. That is why some people are doing drama,” he said.

On Thursday, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte had warned of holding a protest if the water problem in Porvorim was not resolved within five days.

The CM further said that there was a demand for an overbridge across NH66 near Ghotinocho Vall, Cunchelim to felicitate movement of locals and industrial workers in the area.

“At present, there is a service road from both sides. Local MLA Joshua D’Souza has consistently discussed this issue with me. They have given a representation. We are thinking about it positively. We will have to plan first as cost will have to be borne by the government,” he said.

He also admitted that a similar demand had come from the residents of Kamarkazhan for an overbridge in their area.
