The residents of Bastora have written to the State Election Commission (SEC) objecting to the erroneous method used to carry out delimitation of two wards in the village.
According to the villagers, the delimitation of wards 4 and 6 of the village panchayat of Bastora was done on the basis of house numbers and not as per geographical contiguity.
“The division of the wards causes difficulty as the delimitation is not geographically contiguous making it difficult to deal with problems/complaints associated with the residents of the wards,” the locals said.
They said in some cases the voters residing in the same house have been wrongly divided and included in two different wards.
Similarly, there were instances when the residents could not resolve issues between two neighbouring houses, as two different ward members represented the houses.
The local informed the SEC that the houses in wards 4 and 6 come under survey no 99/4 which is divided into two parts and are geographically contiguous, one part of which is covered under the 20-point programme and the other the comunidade of Bastora.
“These errors need to be rectified by dividing the two wards in a geographically contiguous manner. This will help in resolving the issues amicably and gain the confidence of the voters,” the villagers said in their petition to the SEC.
