Where are the street vendors, besides the fruit vendors disposing of their waste, is a question that came up at a meeting of MMC garbage workers with MMC Chairperson Lyndon Pereira, Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes, Municipal engineer Manoj Arsekar and Assistant engineer Vishant Naik on Thursday.
Vishant has called for a mechanism, wherein the street vendors, including the over 150-road side fast food outlets, are made to dispose of their daily waste in designated bins upon payment of fees.
He said waste generated by the street vendors is being disposed of in open spaces since the civic body has neither provided them with the dedicated waste disposal facility nor charged them for waste collection.
