Apropos to “Alina hits out at BJP, resigns; joins AAP” (The Goan Everyday December 17, 2021).
What is happening in the political landscape of Goa is, “You blink and miss it”. At one moment Madam Alina was talking to media persons after tendering her resignation and making a statement that her supporters will decide her next move. Fair enough.
Barely we grasped the enormity of what had just happened, arrived the images of Madam Alina with the AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and other leading lights of Goa. We learnt that she joined AAP. In a span of couple of hours this shocking development took place.
Even her party was taken by surprise at this rapid turn of events. Gone in sixty seconds. Meet the legislative assembly speaker. Tender resignation. Talk to media. Disappear. Re-surface on SM with the news that I have joined so and so party. Are we, the people of Goa, fools?
Arvind Kejriwal was just the other day lashing out at the cancer called defection in the politics of Goa. He was taking a high moral ground stating that leaders fighting elections on AAP ticket will give affidavit stating that they will not defect to rival party until the end of their term.
He has gone right ahead and accepted Alina into his party fold. What a doublespeak! Nevertheless, people of Goa are watching with bated breath. The agonisingly long wait for February 2022 will come to an end. The winter of discontent will soon conclude. Fingers crossed.
