Be ready for surprises on March 10: Oppn leader

MARGAO
Opposition leader Digambar Kamat on Monday asserted that the people of Goa have decided to give a decisive mandate to the Congress party to form a stable government in the state.

Admitting that the Congress made a mistake last time of not forming the government, Kamat said no such thing will happen in 2022.

Interacting with the media after casting his vote on Monday morning in his home constituency Margao, Kamat said the voting pattern shows that Goans have come out to give a decisive mandate to the Congress to form a stable government.

“The response for the Congress party is encouraging in all the constituencies. It is evident there’s a wave in favour of Congress. You will find many surprises on March 10 when the EVMs are opened for counting of votes,” he said, while exuding confidence that the people will show the new political parties their place in Goa.

When his attention was drawn to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement that the pro-incumbency wave is visible in the state, Kamat shot back saying this only goes to show the arrogance of the ruling party. “They can only see a pro-incumbency wave and cannot see the people’s voice,” he added.

On the sting operation, Kamat said the sting operation will in no way affect the Congress party. On the contrary, he said the sting operation has helped Congress, saying the operation has exposed the intentions of some of these parties.

“These parties have stooped to a low level. They have even forged the signature of GPCC Chief Girish Chodankar. Such tricks will not deter the people of Goa from giving a decisive mandate in favour of the Congress”, he added.

Referring to the Chief Minister’s stand that the BJP will get 22 seats in 2022, Kamat said Devendra Fadnavis had said a similar thing in Maharashtra, and the people have shown him the place “Just go through the BJP’s history and they are on the downslide in Goa. From 21 seats in 2012 to 13 seats in 2017. People of Goa will show the BJP its right place in 2022,” he added.

Kamat admitted the Congress delayed in taking the decision to form the government in 2017. “Chidambaram has apologized to the people of Goa for 2017. Nothing of such sort will happen this time. We will take decision immediately,” he added.

‘Not daydreaming of becoming CM’
MARGAO: Opposition leader Digambar Kamat has said he was not daydreaming of becoming the Chief Minister and added he would bounce back on the hot seat if it is written in his destiny.
“Where’s the question of daydreaming when I don’t claim to be the Chief Minister. My party leadership will decide on the Chief Minister. I believe in the present, not in the future and the past,” Kamat told the media.
He recalled that Congress President Sonia Gandhi had made him the Chief Minister in 2007 when he did not lobby for the post. “If it is written in my destiny, nobody will be able to take away the post from me,” he asserted.
