Cavelossim villagers on Sunday lodged their strong objection to the Port Limits marked on the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) both on the beach side and the River Sal, with people demanding that the government rectify the anomalies.
At a special meeting convened by the village panchayat along with the villagers to discuss the government’s CZMP, the villagers unanimously opposed the Port Limit to Major Port marked on the CZMP.
The villagers also took strong objection to mangroves being shown in the paddy fields in the CZMP and have questioned why the plan did not show houses in the CRZ.
Villagers were surprised to note that the changes proposed in the earlier plan have not been incorporated in the new plan. Hence, they have requested the panchayat to ensure that the changes are incorporated in the plan.
Villagers also requested to maintain the sand dunes along the coast, while demanding that all the houses in the CRZ should be shown in the plan.
Sarpanch Denis Dias informed that the panchayat will meet later this week to discuss the plan and to take cognizance of the points raised by the villagers. He said the gram sabha will be held on February 28 wherein certain resolutions will be adopted and sent to the government to bring about changes to the CZMP.
