Traders in Mapusa cried foul as disappointed customers had to return back empty handed after they failed to receive supply of the red meat on Sunday morning.
“Many amongst us had taken orders for supply of beef to wedding and party organisers. They had paid an advance to us. How are we going to answer our customers?” asked Goush Bepari, a beef trader from Mapusa.
The traders blamed the administration at the Goa Meat Complex and demanded action against officials for failing to supply the stock.
“We get beef supply of almost Rs 7 lakh in Mapusa. Similarly, such stocks are sent to other centres of Margao, Vasco, Panaji and Ponda,” Bepari informed. Sources said disruption of power supply could be the cause for supply not reaching the traders on Sunday morning.
Blaming officials of Goa Meat Complex for the state of affairs, All Goa Quraishi Meat Traders Association, president, Manna Bepari said the loaders were present at the site to lift the stock early Sunday morning but no management staff was available to put the generators on. “Power failure is just an excuse. All facilities such as generators are available at the Goa Meat Complex,” the association’s president said.
He said the traders suffered huge losses due to failure of supply of beef on Sunday.
Goa Meat Complex, Managing Director, Uday Pednekar admitted that there was a delay in supply of beef due to power issues, but added that it was supplied later in the morning to all centres.
“There was a slight delay in the morning but after understanding the problem we managed to supply the stock,” Pednekar said.
However, All Goa Quraishi Meat Traders Association, president denied receiving the stock till noon.
“None of our centres received any supply till noon. In any case, we have decided not to accept the supply so late. As per rules the meat has to be supplied by 6 in the morning,” Bepari said.
