A former ZP president has also been arrested for sheltering the gang and Malbari is considered the right hand of notorious gangster Chota Shakeel. Disclosing details at a news conference on Monday, City Police Commissioner T G Krishna Bhatt said the City Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) police headed by CPI B R Gaddekar had succeeded in cracking the gang headed by notorious ganster, Rashid Malbari, an aide of Dubai-based underworld don Chhota Shakeel.
The gangsters from the company were engaged in activities like extortion, kidnapping and dacoity in Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa. The six accused were arrested in Belagavi on Sunday evening.
Giving further details, Bhatt said former Zilla Panchayat President Nazir Nadaf, Mujaffar Mohammad Shaikh, Imtiyaz A Dalayat, Jatin Arjun Kadam, Sarfaraz and one more person was arrested in three murder cases, that included the murder of Ashish Ranjan from Goa, Rohan Redekar, a young businessman from Belagavi and Ayaz Ahmed of Mumbai.
Nadaf was arrested for sheltering the gangsters in his farmhouse near Savadatti-Belagavi. “During interrogation, Nadaf admitted that the gang was responsible for the kidnap and murder of Rohan Redekar and two others. Rohan was kidnapped and murdered two years ago and his body was thrown at Chorla Ghat.” “Ashish Ranjan from Ranchi, who was living in Goa since the last couple of years, was murdered on March 8 near Bagewadi on the NH4 and the body was abandoned near Ankola. Ranjan’s wife had registered a missing case with the Goa police on March 7,” said Bhatt.
“The gang had also kidnapped realtor, Shareef Yargatti, and had demanded ransom of Rs 2 crore from his family. However, he was released by taking Rs 3.5 lakh along with assurance to pay Rs 10 lakh more.”
“We suspect that the gang is involved other such cases and the facts will be revealed after thorough investigations,” said Bhatt, adding that Belagavi police is in contact with its counterparts in Goa and Maharashtra to unearth more details.

xpert computer hacker, was allegedly involved in blackmailing and assisting criminals.
“He was called to Belagavi on March 7 on the pretext that Malbari wanted to meet him. After reaching Belagavi, he was taken to a farmhouse at Chandgad and the next day, was taken to Bagewadi, where he was hacked to death. The mutilated body was recovered by Ankola police,”said CPI Gaddekar.
