In a bizarre incident of dacoity that has been solved by the Belagavi Police, five persons were arrested in connection to a daylight dacoity.
Briefing media persons on Friday, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr Amarnath Reddy said in a case of daring daylight dacoity that was reported on June 1, a leading city businessman was robbed. The accused robbed Rs 9.88 lakh from him after spraying chilli powder into his eyes while he was on his way to the bank.
Under the directions of DCP Reddy, CPI B R Gaddekar and a team of DCRB branch of police nabbed five persons identified as Kiran Maddannavar (27), Ravi Talwar (28), Jyotiba Hanchinmani (22), Anil Paddennavar (22) and Rajesh Vadur, all residents of Belagavi.
Police have recovered cash of Rs 7.52 lakh and a scooter worth Rs 25,000 that was robbed from the businessman.
Giving further details, DCP Dr Reddy said the gang was also involved in chain snatching, etc. Though details are yet to arrive, during interrogation they have confessed that soon after the dacoity, they went to Goa and lavishly spent the robbed amount in casinos and stayed in starred hotels.
“They have spent about Rs 1 lakh in casinos and hotels in Goa and returned back to Belagavi immediately, after which they were arrested based on the mobile phone location,” he said.
The accused were remanded to judicial custody and sent to Hindalga prison.
