The Returning Officer told The Goan that he has passed an order countermanding election for the ward following a report that the candidate has died of a cardiac arrest. “After my office received a report on the death of the candidate Joaquim Piexote, I have passed an order countermanding the election for Ward 5 of the Chandor Panchayat,” he said.
Replying to a question, he said his office has informed the other candidate in the fray Raymond D’Cruz about the decision to countermand the election.
Ward 5 was heading for a straight fight between Joaquim Piexote and Raymond D’Cruz before the election was countermanding following Joaquim’s demise.
