Salcete to get three flying squads

The number of Flying squad in-charges for Salcete taluka will be increased to three from Monday, even as complaints have started pouring in from candidates, including complaints that certain candidates were taking advantage of the installation of LED lights by the government.

MARGAO:
Returning Officer for the Carmona Panchayat Manoj Korgaonkar told The Goan on Sunday that as many as three complaints have come in from Carmona, alleging that certain candidates are taking advantage of the installation of LED lights in the village. It is learnt that the candidates stand and supervise the LED light installation, giving an impression to the voters that they are responsible for getting the lights in the village.
Korgaonkar said the number of flying squad in-charges will be increased from Monday, with just a week to go for the elections to the Panchayat bodies scheduled on June 11. “We had directed the candidates to bring the complaints to the notice of the flying squad in-charge. The sectoral magistrates are also being intimated of the complaints to ensure there’s no violation of the model code of conduct,” he said.
Replying to a question, Korgaonkar said there’s not been any major or serious complaint that has been received from any of the 11 Panchayat bodies under his jurisdiction. He, however, said that with the election fast approaching, the officials do not want to take any chances and allow the candidates to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere.
